Accommodation and student services
For successful study, it is important that students feel comfortable and secure in their living environment. For this reason, we ensure that all our students enjoy a range of accommodation and support services designed to provide them with the best facilities available.
Accommodation Options
Homestay
Homestay accommodation involves staying with an Australian family in their own home. Our Homestay staff match students to families with similar interests, providing students with a safe, supportive family environment. Students have their own furnished room in a private family home, with two meals per day provided. Assistance will be given with basic needs such as laundering of clothing and cleaning.
Homestay families will also give assistance with transport options (where to catch the bus or train) for the student to travel to the campus. Students staying in Homestay find it provides good opportunities to experience Australian culture and life, especially when they first arrive in Sydney to commence their studies.
Montpelier House
Montpelier House, a co-educational residence is available to students studying at our Darlinghurst campus. It is a 54-bed facility consisting of 28 single rooms, nine twin rooms (bunk beds) and two dormitories with four beds in each (short term stay only). This accommodation option is only available in Sydney.
Rental Accommodation
There are many different types of rental accommodation available in Sydney and Brisbane. Students can choose from houses, flats or apartments, and these can be furnished or unfurnished. Living in rental accommodation gives students greater personal freedom, but also means greater personal responsibility. To rent a house or apartment, a bond is required (usually one month's rent), and you will be required to pay for the connection and usage of utilities such as gas, electricity and telephone or cable. If the house or apartment is unfurnished, you will need to provide your own furniture, electrical appliances, towels, sheets, etc. Living with other students in a house or apartment will help you to share the expenses of this type of accommodation.

Social Activities
While studies always come first, there are many opportunities for students to take part in a wide range of social activities outside study hours. Students can relax in the company of fellow students, form lasting friendships and learn to understand and appreciate many aspects of the Australian lifestyle. Our students take part in a host of social activities outside classroom hours which include various trips to places of cultural interest or to places that are just a lot of fun. Whether it's an evening trip to the cinema, theatre or tourist attraction, a day enjoying a barbecue on the beach, or simply a traditional Australian pub – you’ll find plenty to see and do.
Student insurance and additional fees
StudyCare – Travel and Medical Insurance
International students are required by the Australian Government to take out Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). Study Group also offers an additional insurance policy called StudyCare, designed to complement OSHC. StudyCare provides students with a fully comprehensive protection cover including: medical emergency and repatriation (over and above OSHC), emergency help line, travel cancellation, course fee reimbursement, lost and delayed baggage, personal liability and personal accident. Living costs
As a guide, students should budget at least an additional AUD15,000 per annum (dependent on individual circumstances) for all expenses other than tuition fees.

Charles Sturt University Postgraduate Studies
Master of Business (MBUS)
Successful completion of an undergraduate degree comparable to an Australian Bachelor Degree.
Master of Information Systems (MIS)
Successful completion of an undergraduate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or Information Systems (recognised as equivalent to Australian Information Technology undergraduate degree).
Master of Information Technology (MIT)
Successful completion of an undergraduate degree (in any discipline), or have at least five years of experience at a managerial level, or professional certificates such as Microsoft Certification etc, or Diploma/Associate Diploma and lesser amounts of other relevant professional experiences.

- Complete the Application for Admission form.
- You will need to fax (+612 9267 0531) in certified copies of senior high school results and/or tertiary studies and evidence of your English language proficiency (IELTS or TOEFL results). Please ensure that certified translations accompany documents that are not in English. Copies can be certified by:
- an Australian Diplomatic Mission
- a Justice of the Peace
- the official records department of the institute that originally issued the document
- an authorised Study Group representative.
- Your application will be acknowledged promptly and you will be notified if your application is accepted.
- In order to accept the offer of place, it will be necessary to obtain a bank draft made payable to "Study Group Australia" or alternatively pay by bank transfer for the amount specified for the offered intake. Send payment details or draft to the International Admissions Centre.
- On receipt of payment, your place will be confirmed and an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment form will be issued. This document must be presented to the Australian Diplomatic Mission when applying for a student visa.
Local students
- Complete all details on the Application for Admission form. If you have any questions, please contact a Careers Consultant at the campus of your choice.
- Send Application for Admission form with your Enrolment Fee of $180.
- Your application will be acknowledged promptly and you will be notified if your application is accepted.

Enrolment
I (which expression includes the parent/guardian who has signed this contract) hereby apply to Study Group Australia ("SGA") as the affiliate provider of Charles Sturt University ("CSU") programs, to enrol in the CSU course and intake as nominated on the Application for Admission ("the Application"). I agree that on acceptance of the Application by SGA, the Application for Admission Form will become the Contract of Enrolment ("the Contract") and further, I agree to abide by the following terms and conditions of enrolment:
1. Acceptance of the enrolment is not granted until confirmed in writing by SGA.
2. I agree to pay the tuition fee and other charges applicable for my course on the due dates as published in the brochure attached to the Contract, and acknowledge and agree that tuition fees may alter from time to time.
3. Any variation of the terms and conditions of the Contract must be in writing and be signed by an authorised officer of SGA.
4. I agree that it is a condition of my enrolment that I attend all scheduled lectures except where there is a legitimate reason for non-attendance which is acceptable to SGA (for example, illness supported by a Doctor's Certificate). If my enrolment terminates due to a breach of this condition I understand and agree that I may not be entitled to any refund of the tuition fees or other charges paid to SGA under the Contract.
5. All lectures and any material related thereto supplied by SGA are copyright and shall remain the property of SGA.
6. Any unauthorised copying may constitute a breach of the Copyright Act 1968 (as amended).
7. All materials supplied to me shall, upon completion of the course, be returned to SGA.
8. I agree that I may be required, and permission is hereby granted, to attend organised SGA excursions and activities as part of the course. SGA is hereby authorised to obtain medical treatment for myself should such action be deemed necessary by SGA or a staff member acting on behalf of SGA. I agree to indemnify and hold harmless SGA and its staff for any expense, loss, damage or liability of whatsoever nature or howsoever occasioned as a result of authorising and arranging such emergency medical treatment.
9. I agree that I am required to use my best endeavours to meet the requirements of the CSU program selected and to abide by the rules and regulations of SGA.
I understand that if I breach any of SGA's rules or my behaviour is deemed unacceptable by SGA,my enrolment may be cancelled and I may not be entitled to any refund of the tuition fees or other charges paid to SGA under the Contract. Unacceptable behaviour includes but is not limited to, unsatisfactory attendance or performance and breach of Australian Government Visa regulations.
10. I agree that I am responsible for my own books, equipment and personal items and I hereby release, indemnify and hold harmless SGA against all liability and claims for any loss or damage to such items, howsoever caused.
11. I acknowledge that I have read and understood the "Student Grievances Policy" outlined on this page.
12. I hereby acknowledge that I have read, understood and agree to the terms of the Cancellation and Refund Policy outlined on this page.
13. I understand that a late payment fee (LPF) of A$100 per month is payable on accounts which remain unpaid 14 days after the due date for payment.
14. I understand that if after commencing the course, I discontinue my program before completion of a full Academic Year (3 trimesters or 2 semesters at a full time study load), I may remain liable to pay the full tuition fee and any expenses, costs or disbursements incurred by SGA in recovering any outstanding monies, including debt collection agency fees and solicitors costs. I also understand that the first Academic Year is deemed to be the first 3 trimesters or 2 semesters of my enrolment and that subsequent Academic Years are deemed as each subsequent grouping of 3 trimesters or 2 semesters.
Cancellation and refund policy
All notices of cancellations must be made in writing.
1. Enrolment fees are non-refundable.
2. International students
a) Inability to start or continue your course SGA will refund within 28 days and without deduction, all tuition fees paid where
- the student's Application for Admission is refused by SGA.
- the student produces certified evidence that the application made by the student for a student visa has been rejected by the Australian Immigration authorities.
- political or civil unrest or natural disasters prevent you leaving your country or paying fees in full
- your offer of a place is withdrawn (unless the offer was made on the basis of incorrect or incomplete information you supplied, in which case SGA will retain 10% of the fees for one trimester)
- the course which you wanted to undertake is no longer offered
To seek a refund in these circumstances, you should write to the Director, CSU Programs of SGA, supplying copies of relevant documentation (such as visa refusal letter or medical certificates)
b) Withdrawal from one or more subjects after course commencement
Full fee paying overseas students are required under their visa regulations to enrol in a normal full-time subject load each trimester, which is minimum 24 points load or 3 subjects. This requirement may only be relaxed where the student is in the final trimester of the course with less than the full-time trimester load necessary to complete the course
Where a student withdraws from a subject(s) without breach of visa regulations and without resulting in course cancellation or termination, a student may opt to
- Have unused portion of fees for the subject(s), held and applied against future subject(s) or
- Seek a refund of tuition fees of subject(s) by writing to the Director, CSU Programs of SGA.
The calculation of the unused portion of fees or the refund of subject(s) tuition fees is according to the following rules (refer to table 1).
SGA agrees to refund within 28 days of the receipt of written notice of refund request.
c) Cancellation of course
SGA agrees to refund within 28 days of receipt of written notice of cancellation by the student (or parent or guardian if the student is under 18 years of age), tuition fees paid by or on behalf of the student less the amounts to be retain as agreed and detailed in the table 2 below. *
For package courses refer to point 7 below and Cancellation charge table 2 below.
Where a student applied for a change in their course in the final trimester of their enrolment, and if that change results in additional credits being gained from CSU thus reducing the length of their enrolment, no refund shall be given for subjects already paid.
* If a student withdraws from a course before the deemed commencement date, and SGA has paid an amount to a representative in relation to your recruitment, the refund will be further reduced by that amount.
3. Local Fee Paying Students
New students, ie those enrolling in their first session or trimester of study, who withdraw from all subjects by 5.00 pm on the census date for that session or trimester shall receive a refund of the fees for those subjects less an administration fee. No refund is payable after the census date.
New students who withdraw from part of their subject enrolment by 5.00 pm of the census date for that session or trimester shall receive a refund for those subjects less an administrative charge per subject. No refund is payable after the census date.
Continuing students who withdraw from one or more subjects by 5.00 pm on the census date for that session or trimester shall receive a refund of the fees for those subjects less an administrative charge per subject. No refund is payable after the census date.
Students repeating a subject must pay the full fee regardless of subject requirements previously completed.
Students not wishing to sit for final examinations and obtain a formal award must pay the full fee.
4. Homestay/Lodge Refunds
I understand that if:
(i) I cancel my accommodation less than 7 days before arrival I will be charged the Accommodation/Homestay Placement Fee (if applicable) plus a cancellation fee equivalent to 1 week's accommodation.
(ii) I understand that if I cancel my accommodation after arrival, 4 weeks' notice is required; any accommodation fees in excess on the notice period will be refunded less a 10% cancellation fee.
5. Any default by Study Group will be covered by the provisions of the ESOS Act 2000 and the ESOS Regulations 2001.
6. This agreement does not remove the right to take further action under Australia's consumer protection laws.
7. Package Programs
Where a student has enrolled in a package course, of Martin College and a CSU program or of an Embassy CES course and a CSU program or of an Embassy CES, Martin College and a CSU program, the course commencement date for the purpose of this clause will be deemed to be the commencement date of the earliest course.
Students applying for a package program of Martin College and a CSU Degree program be required to pay a non-refundable deposit $1000 on the CSU Degree program in order apply for a visa for the full duration. The Refund policy as detailed above will apply to package programs. Refer to Cancellation Charge in table 2 below.
8. Fee paying overseas students in Australia on a student visa are normally not permitted to take leave of absence. Such students who wish to apply for leave must obtain a written statement from the Director, CSU Programs of SGA. Only in exceptional circumstances will an application for leave be supported.
Change of visa status
If you provide the Director, CSU Programs of Study Group with written evidence that you have been granted Australian Permanent Resident status before the start of a trimester, you will then be eligible to pay fees at Local Fee Paying students rates. (Permanent Resident status is recognised from the date stamped on your passport, not the date on which you applied.) If your Permanent Resident status was granted after the start of a trimester, then you will be eligible to pay fees at Local Fee Paying students rates the following trimester.
Services
SGA reserves the right to change the particulars of the services, including changes to prices, courses, facilities and dates of programs where circumstances beyond the Company's control necessitate such changes or where the level of bookings received do not reach the minimum numbers required to operate a course viably.
Student Grievances Policy
In the event of a dispute between an individual student and SGA, procedures are in place to facilitate the resolution of the dispute. If the student remains dissatisfied with the outcome, they may seek independent external mediation, through The Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators of Australia (IAMA).
A summary of dispute resolution procedures follows:
1. Code of Conduct, Attendance and Discipline:
Students are expected to abide by the terms and conditions of enrolment and the published rules and code of conduct of SGA. Disciplinary procedures will be applied in the event of a breach of these rules. All staff are expected to apply the SGA's policy and rules fairly and without favour, but if a student considers that this has not occurred, the student may refer the matter to the Director – CSU Programs. If the student is dissatisfied with the decision, he/she may ultimately refer the matter to the General Manager for determination.
2. Service and Academic Programs:
In the event of a student complaint concerning the quality of the service or teaching provided by the SGA, the student will report the matter to a person in a position of authority within the SGA. The complaint may either be dealt with by that person, or referred to Director – CSU Programs for resolution. The Director – CSU Programs will confer with the parties in dispute, prior to making a decision. This decision will be conveyed in writing to the parties. If either the action taken or the outcome does not satisfy the student, they may write to the General Manager, who will in turn convey a decision in writing to the student.
3. Contractual and Financial Issues:
Matters relating to the interpretation of the contract, or the payment or refund of moneys, are stated clearly in the contract of enrolment. Any queries relating to course fees and other charges payable to the SGA (or refunds) will initially be dealt with by SGA Finance and Administration staff. If the student is dissatisfied with the decision, the matter will be referred to the General Manager for determination. If either the action taken or the outcome does not satisfy the student, they may write to the Finance Director, who will in turn convey a decision in writing to the student.
4. Students studying in Charles Sturt University programs in Brisbane who are concerned about the conduct of a provider may contact officers of the Queensland Department of Education; and the chief executive of the Queensland Department of Education has power under the Education (Overseas Students) Act to suspend or cancel the registration of a provider or a course within that state.
